Reading Room & Identex run into more success with Race for Life 2005

Building on the success of the New Media Effectiveness Award winning site, Reading Room has helped Cancer Research UK to launch the new Race for Life 2005 site. Reading Room continues to work closely with Cancer Research UK after being awarded the contract for the site for the fifth year running.

In partnership with Identex Ltd., a specialist data marketing company, Reading Room have ensured that the site offers users stunning visual design, streamlined user pathways, and an excellent user experience.

During an initial strategic phase Reading Room worked with Cancer Research UK to assess the primary functions of the site. The site was designed and built to reduce costs, increase income and to enhance the user experience. Working closely with Identex, who built the e-commerce and undertake the CRM for the site, Reading Room focussed on creating a simple and usable interface.

During the summer of 2004, 409,000 women walked, jogged or ran 5km and raised a staggering £21m in sponsorship money for Cancer Research UK's Race for Life.

The website succeeded in raising the number of online entrants from 95,770 to 156,332 - a leap of 63%. For the first year, online became the most popular entry channel, beating telephone and post into second and third place respectively. In addition, the website has saved over £300k by automating processes and reducing distribution costs.

The site supports the full cycle of the event enabling users to register for races, download resources and pay their sponsorship money online. The Race for Life team were also keen to maintain the community feel that has grown strongly over the years. Users can contribute to message boards and share experiences related to loved ones who have had cancer.
