This years Awards from the National Library for the Blind (NLB), which are sponsored by Barclays will be presented to winners by Robert Llewellun, star of Red Dwarf at a prestigious ceremony at the Russell Hotel, London on Thursday 2nd March.
NLB's Carol Pollitt:
'The Visionary Design Awards challenge web publishers and designers to create sites which comply with the Disability Discrimination Act by being accessible to visually impaired people, but are also attractive and informative too. Accessible design should be the rule rather than the exception, and it's hoped that the winners of the Awards will inspire others to greater inclusiveness in designing their web-based services.'
NLB estimates that less than a third of websites are currently accessible to visually impaired people who use technologies such as magnification, text to speech, and refreshable Braille in order to access web based services.
Margaret Manning CEO of Reading Room
'It is vital that the industry understands the importance of accessible design we at Reading Room have been championing accessibility for years and are delighted to have been recognised for doing so.'
