Reading Room win international awards in New York

01/03/2008 - London

Reading Room have won three outstanding achievement awards at the international 2008 Interactive Media Awards.

Sites designed for Škoda, the Prince of Wales and the New South Wales Commission for Children and Young People have all been given outstanding achievement awards in the automobile, non-profit and youth categories respectively.

The Interactive Media Awards were judged in New York by senior directors of global brands including American Express, Deutsche Bank and the New York Times. They recognise the highest standards of excellence in website design and development and honour individuals and organisations for their outstanding achievement.

Reading Room's design for the Škoda UK site is a unique response to an automotive site brief. The design avoided the convention of monochrome 'car-porn', in favour of something bright, fun and user-friendly. The site is called 'The Happiness Factory', and is inspired by Škoda's 'Manufacturer of happy drivers' offline campaign. It is also designed to mirror the experience of owning a Škoda - in that it's user-friendly, unpretentious, and efficient. The website is also structured to be highly effective in creating an audience journey to test drive bookings and sales enquiries.

Reading Room designed an accessible site for the Prince of Wales with a contemporary look and fresh, distinctive design. The new site utilises interactive features, communicating through subscription-based content, flash games and broadband content.

The fresh and approachable design of the NSW Commission for Children and Young People website was developed by Reading Room in Sydney. The site successfully addresses a wide range of audiences from government agencies through parents and carers to children and young people themselves. Crucially, kids are able to use the site to find advice and information about things that affect them and in a specific section of the site for kids called The Zone there are a variety of interactive features including flash-based games and a KidsPoll enabling kids to "vote" on topics.

Margaret Manning, CEO of Reading Room, said that:
"It is always great to win awards, but to win international awards such as these is particularly good as it shows how as a consultancy our global reach is increasing. All these projects are superb showcases of both our work and the variety of expertise at Reading Room that has allowed us to achieve this success."
