UK mobile operators Independent Classification Body launches website
Reading Room launch this week the first website for the Independent Mobile Classification Body (www.imcb.org.uk). IMCB has been appointed by *six mobile phone operators to oversee the self-classification of new forms of adult commercial content on mobiles.
IMCB has created a framework against which providers of commercial content to mobile subscribers will be required to self classify new forms of content such as still images and video clips. The classification framework will be comparable to that used in other media including for videos and the cinema.
The Reading Room team has worked closely with IMCB over the last few months to develop a highly functional site that delivers a larger volume of information in a way that is both easy to use and fast to access.
Users can participate in on-line polls and submit links to other sites that they think would provide useful information for other visitors. In addition users can submit questions that will be viewed with IMCB answering within the FAQ section of the site. Queries and complaints that members of the public may have regarding content can also be dealt with by allowing them to complete complaint forms online. Complaints should, however in the first instance be made to consumer's mobile phone operator.
Margaret Manning CEO of Reading Room
We are really pleased to be working with IMCB in the development their first website. It's great to be involved in raising awareness for such an important and extremely topical issue.
The website is also aimed at content providers, and in addition to the Classification Framework, the organisation will provide non-binding advice on the classification of content.
Paul Whiteing - Director at IMCB
IMCB's website is integral to how we engage with a wide range of organisations and people, whether they be mobile phone customers seeking more information or content providers needing to understand how to classify their mobile picture commercial content. We are confident that the website will deliver, in an easy to use way, the levels of support that this wide range of visitors will need from us as a public-facing body.
Site to launch 31st January 2005.
* The six mobile phone operators involved are:
Vodaphone, 02, 3, Virgin, T-Mobile & Orange.
