Everyman & Playhouse

Everyman & Playhouse

Liverpool's iconic, yet distinctive, Everyman and Playhouse venues are united by a commitment to forward-thinking theatre at heart of the community.

Our role, as the agency's newly appointed digital agency, was to support that mission by creating a new website that would encapsulate the charm and attraction of the two theatres whilst providing a fast and easy way for visitors to buy tickets for upcoming productions.

The Challenge

The new EverymanPlayhouse.com had to be a refreshing, welcoming space.

With the brand new Everyman theatre reopening in Spring 2014, we were commissioned with developing a fresh, modern platform. It needed to reflect both the excitement of the groundbreaking, Stirling Prize-winning new Everyman building as well as the traditional stalwart grandeur of the Playhouse.

The new site needed to capture the organisation’s values of making, sharing and sustaining theatre, with inviting designs forming an inclusive experience for both long-term patrons and those new to the theatre.

UX & Design

We created a platform that encompasses all that the Everyman & Playhouse stood for.

Instead of just a repackaging of marketing materials, the new site became integral to the entire strategic rebranding of the organisation in 2014 as well as revitalising the organisation’s web presence. It retains a valuable archive of past productions whilst a bold homepage design has an immediate impact on users, showcasing the two venues and current shows.

A carefully structured information architecture and research-led user journeys direct users to the content they need; providing a rewarding experience and serving to encourage public pride in and ownership of the theatres. Prominent calls-to-action throughout the site drive bookings and encourage the user to learn more about the venues and productions.

Hayden Evans,

“EverymanPlayhouse.com now serves to demonstrate the impact of the work of the theatres, and encourages engagement and conversation. It continues to play a central role as first port of call for visitors and information hub for stakeholders.”

Hayden Evans,

We integrated a powerful third-party ticketing platform (Tessitura) to this Drupal website; keeping productions and performances automatically updated with data from the ticketing platform, meaning that that users are kept fully up to date throughout the booking process.

Clear links to the booking system are incorporated throughout, directing visitors to completing the final transaction in their journey, ensuring ticket sales are driven and commercial as well as brand objectives are achieved.

Social media feeds are integrated throughout, fuelling the conversation between the organisation and its audiences - truly an Everyman for everyone. The latest news and striking promotions for upcoming productions available within a fully responsive design, working effectively across mobile and tablet devices.

The new Everyman and Playhouse website has been named one of the year's best arts and culture websites.

The site received international recognition in the form of a 'Best in Class' Interactive Media Award, receiving full marks for its content and feature functionality. Judges representing brands such as Huffington Post, Samsung and Microsoft reviewed sites from all over the world, in eight different languages, and gave the theatre site a score of 486 out of a possible 500.
