About the role

Reading Room is a user and data-centric consultancy. The digital services that we create deliver value for our clients and delight their users because they are designed around the needs, motivations and behaviours of the people that use them. This focus on user-centric design is the key to our success as a digital consultancy.

You will work closely with the agency's consultancy team to help understand client needs and shape our approach to these from a user-centred design perspective. One key part of this activity is centred around running objective-setting workshops with clients to help define success criteria for the work we do. Setting up relationships with clients in this way helps us to begin with mutually agreed and measurable outcomes, that factor in users/customers and business needs. We call this a goals and metrics approach.

You will lead and mentor a multidisciplinary design and user research team working across multiple projects and clients.

As a leader within the agency, you will be the go-to person for design and UX standards, approaches and practices. This includes being a champion for new ways of working and innovation. To support you in this you will have personal development time and an allowance for conferences, events and training.

Development of your team, and championing design efforts is also a core aspect of this role.

We have a strong culture of learning, listening and development. We are looking for someone who will thrive in this environment and help others to do so.

You will have the flexibility to shape the role to suit your strengths and shape the team in the long term to deliver against the agency's objectives.

Skills and experience:

  • 7+ years of experience working in a UX design role
  • 3+ years experience working in a digital agency or consultancy
  • Experience in owning and delivering a User-centred design process
  • Experience of a range of user research methods
  • Experience managing internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong design communication and presentation skills
  • Understanding of agency commercial relationships

About you

A confident and competent design professional you have a breadth and depth of experience shaping digital products and services based on user needs and organisational outcomes. You will have managed individuals or a team of designers or researchers in the past and enjoy enabling & collaborating with others.  Above all else, you will have a willingness to learn and a passion for exploring the problems people face when using digital services, digital products, and websites.
